February 16, 2010

Wow, two days in a row that we have woken up to no ice on the inside of our windows. All good signs that today is not going to be as cold as it has been, and sure enough today is another warm day. We have a new driver today, not sure what happened to our original one, he was really nice. I think this driver is also a Taxi driver judging by the different routes he has taken, and just when I thought I knew where we were going?!!!!

Off to the baby house we go. Today one of my favorite care givers was working. She is always so nice and lets Dominic and Isabel come in the room when I am feeding him. She loves to say Isabel's name and she also lets her see which crib her brother sleeps in. He really loves this lady; I keep forgetting to ask her name, but we must take a photo of them together.

Our little one was in the walker watching TV when we arrived. I called his name and he gave me such big smile, something he seems to do every time he sees me, so cute. Today we were told he woke up very early so was very tired and only played for a little. We cannot wait to have him full time. After only about half an hour he was falling asleep, so we had to bring him back; so sad because it was such a short visit. Oh well, we still have this afternoon to play.

Today I also have to hand write our Application for adoption, oh gosh no spell check here, it will be slow going. We were told today that Tatyana is coming to Semey tomorrow and will be staying in the same hotel as us for 2 days. It will be nice to finally meet her after only emailing and speaking on the phone.

We are going to try and go to a market it is so nice to see sights of Semey now that the weather is warmer. We will try to take some photo's so you can all see a little of Semey our son’s birth country. We also want to have these for our son to see when he is old enough to understand the journey we took to bring him home.

After lunch we took our walk through the park to a small mall called Park City. There is a grocery store in the lower level, and then 3 upper levels. On the second level there was a very cute little store and I said to Dominic that it looked like an IKEA store, and then as we looked closer we saw that everything was from IKEA. Funny we can’t find a lot of things here, but you can find items from IKEA!

Before we knew it, we were headed back to the baby house for our afternoon visit. As I was washing my hands, our little one was just waking up after a 3 hour nap. I fed him his bowl of meat and potatoes and cup of tea; no spills on either of us today. The care givers seemed extra busy today, so they told me to go change him. Not by words, but I understood, so I had to find clothes and socks for him also changed his diaper he has the cutest little butt. Because of his long nap he was ready to play and sat up very well by himself for a very long time. He also likes to copy us shaking our heads when we say no no no, he laughs and then also shakes his head. To say he has changed is an understatement. He is just so full of life and energy, his cheeks have a red glow to them, and his eyes have a real sparkle. We cannot wait to see him this time next year. It really is truly amazing to see all these changes in such a short time, I hope he somehow can feel how special he is to us, and begin to feel the love of his family.

All too quickly our visit was over so Isabel and I walked him back in to his group, said our hellos to all the other babies, and kissed our little one good bye until tomorrow.

Next we went to the market which is very similar to the Green Market in Almaty, only a little bit smaller. Isabel wanted to buy a few things and it was fun to walk around. It was a little cold outside, but not as cold as last week; it's the wind that really hurts your face. After about an hour we were all ready to leave and head off for an early dinner at the Istanbul Picnic. They cook the best chicken kebabs and coleslaw, also great rice pudding. We told our driver we would walk back, sooo cold. The 4 block walk seemed to take forever. We were so happy to see the sign for our hotel. We are now in for the night. We may go down stairs for coffee but that's it for today, tomorrow is another day.

ISABEL'S  POST.

The baby  is much more active than usual, but in the morning, he was so tired we had to give him back 15 minutes before we were supposed to.  :(    Today, I was actually allowed to go in the room where the feed the babies.  It is the same woman that let me do it last Tuesday.  I got to go in the room where they sleep, play, and change the babies.   Again.........  Same woman.  A new baby came in who was so cute!  Using the toilet at the baby house was very interesting.  I was told that there were just holes in the ground, but I never imagined using one.    It was a step, then a hole in the ground, and last, a pipe that went up that had a handle to flush.  At least it was clean!  The baby had no hat on today!  A really big surprise!  When we gave the baby back, the younger babies were in the play pen in snow suits!  They were not even going outside.  It was 6 above today too.
